The original version of this song which became a hit for Brian Hyland in 1962, and Bobby Vinton in 1972. Charted at #9 on Cash Box's Looking Ahead chart in July 1960, which was Cash Box's equivalent of Billboard's Bubbling Under chart. In effect then, this record charted at #109 under the Cash Box Top 100. The Four Voices had two Billboard charting singles; "Lovely One" in 1956 (posted on my CatsPjamas1 channel) and "Dancing with My Shadow" (posted on this channel).

Written by Peter Udell and Gary Geld.

B-side is "You're All There Is".

I am so used to Brian Hyland's version, that this sounds less passionate and too slow. But they sing it to perfection. Many times it's the arrangement and not just the singers that make the song do well. To me Hyland's version is the definitive one. His interpretation and vocal emphasis on not wanting to say goodbye, his desperate plea of love, is more to the point of the lyrics. Plus the arrangement and tempo speeded up from this creates a feeling of urgency. Harmonica solo adds to the distinctive character of the record.

Good song, nice version. I prefer the teenage angst of Brian Hyland's, though.

I was just 3 years old during 1960 and vividly remember this song playing on the car radio while we were on our way to the Jersey Shore for a weeks vacation in Beach Haven, New Jersey. I can still hear it play in my head now as though it were just yesterday. It's nothing less than stunning how music and song's have the most amazing power to transport us back to earlier days gone by. A veritable ''time machine'' in the truest sense of the words and closest thing to such a device mankind will ever have.

Not everyone deserves to hear this song, because they would try to ruin with their silly criticism

I know Jason Donovan cover of this song but I didn't listen the original one. Both of them are good. I am glad you share it.

I can see why the original version didn't chart, it sounds better when it's a bit faster...and "this"/"kiss"/etc are better when stretched.

Ciao.

Great song, great interpretation. Seems those times , things were the same when tring to make a hit. This song became a hit, in the end, but sang by other singers.
