first time i heard calcutta was in 1968 on kgbc radio galveston,i was listening to hear about the explosion at the carbide plant in texas city,they played calcutta just before the report,so i have always liked this song since i heard it then and its always been the lawrence welk version of the song, i never knew it had words till i found this video just now with the four preps singing calcutta, this is such a wonderful surprise, thank you to the uploader of this video song, i really enjoyed your video very much,brought back some memorys for me, thanks

That is a totally different song that didn't even come out until 1998. These are the original lyrics written by Hans Bradtke. The song itself was written by Heino Gaze.

I don't think those lyrics are the original ones. Can't recall the songwriter, but I believe the lyrics were a taxi driver talking about riding his taxi around Calcutta town. Interesting song in any case.
