'you are indeed correct! Back then it wasn't common to have anything else to package them. These days, they come in many things, but long ago pins represented not only something practical and necessary, but something that wasn't cheap (anything metal was prohibitive). And further back (middle ages) even more so; people don't realize that zippers and buttons weren't used. A women of nobility could have 1000 pins on at any given time. Holding up her hair and holding closed her clothing.

Don't think he gave Marilyn any pins in the movie. He thought she was his angel & being a coyboy wanted to lasso her lol Don't know what paper of pins had anything to do with the movie.

@mariltn4 Thanks for letting us know. So, did a fellow meet Marilyn Monroe near the start of the movie and give her some pins in an introductory scene? That's what I'm speculating?

I think " paper of pins: is the paper the staight pins used to come on. Don't know if they still do. But the movie Bus Stop with Marilyn Monroe is great too. Just love the both!!!

@Isrek1 That's all right, I"m just glad you comment! I love feedback as you know! I'm also glad that you got excited listening to the song. I'm glad my postings can have that effect sometimes.

Must have been a better day. now, instead of a paper of pins you have to give a woman a pay check, and God help you if you haven't got one of those. An unemployment check and a deck of food stamps leaves you wide-eyed on youtube instead of sleeping in her arms.

@CatsPjamas1 I recall singing it as "packet of pins" - what exactly that meant I did not know - I was nine at that time and my main goal in life was getting better at cricket. Oh, and I meant "The Four Lads" - my mental acuity has deteriorated over the years. I got so excited listening to the song that I forgot to peruse your descriptions.

@Isrek1 You're welcome. Just what is a "paper of pins" anyway? I have never known. A reminder that you can read more about the songs and recordings in the description I write underneath each video, so you can discover the movie from whence this song came, etc, and you will see that this record was a fair-sized hit on the Hot 100. Also, minor correction, but this is the Four Lads, not the Four Coins.I'm glad to bring back memories of your shooldays!

I cannot believe this. We "sang" this number at our school play in Bangalore, India. I don't remember anything else except singing this song and I recall people snickering in the audience. Amazing. I was not aware that this was a "real song" by a bona-fide vocal group; "The Four Coins" nonetheless. Thanks for posting.
