Artist: The Flying Burrito Brothers

Album: The Gilded Palace Of Sin (1969)

Track: 2

This old town is filled with sin it'll swallow you in

If you've got some money to burn

Take it home right away, you've got three years to pay

But Satan is waiting his turn

This old earthquake's gonna leave me in the poorhouse

It seems like this whole town's insane

On the thirty-first floor a gold-plated door

Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

The scientists say it'll all wash away

But we don't believe anymore

'Cause we've got our recruits and our green mohair suits

So please show your I.D. at the door

This old earthquake's gonna leave me in the poorhouse

It seems like this whole town's insane

On the thirty-first floor a gold-plated door

Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

A friend came around tried to clean up this town

His ideas made some people mad

He trusted his crowd so he spoke right out loud

And they lost the best friend they had

This old earthquake's gonna leave me in the poorhouse

It seems like this whole town's insane

On the thirty-first floor a gold-plated door

Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

On the thirty-first floor your gold-plated door

Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

I was a college student at Virginia Tech in 1969. I bought this album when it came out and have been listening to it every since!

Gram was such a bad-ass. People don't realize how rebellious that was for an Artist in 1969 to order a Nudie suit with weed, pills,  naked girls on it.  He really pushed the envelope, and sadly, didn't really make it to his spot in the limelight he deserved, but his music is powerful and really has left its mark in a big way.

With the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, I wondered what floor the sniper was on. I was relieved that the sniper was on the 32 floor not the 31st floor. It would have ruined this great song for me.

This is such a good song, but this song could singlehandedly be supported by that one line "this old earth quakes gonna leave me in the poor house". Luckily this entire song is just as good as that and gets better. Underrated music

Luke21faces - Everybody's generation is embarrassing, yours perhaps more than some others in some ways. Regarding 69 being funny, I am 69 and I still think it's funny. But then again, I still think farts are funny too
