I was listening to the Fixx back in the early 80's, and always thought that Shuttered Room was the best LP. The hooks are strong.

Funny you should say that, because that's how it worked out with me. I loved their first three albums, and maybe liked Phantoms BEST, yet when their fourth album came out, I just wasn't interested, and I don't even remember why.

Reach the beach was a great record too, and Phantoms was good. I liked their first 3 after that, they went down hill. I seen these guys 3 times back in the 80's

Okay, I realize I might not get an answer, considering you commented 10 months ago, but . . . you say you listened to Shuttered Room constantly; would you say it's better than Reach the Beach, or Phantoms? Just asking, not looking for an argument.

Good examples, Devo and Numan. I think the best music from what we call "the 80s" happened very, very early in the decade, if not actually beginning in the late 70s. For example, nobody would deny that the Cars were a very "80s" band, but their first two albums (arguably their best) came out in '78 and '79.

This is such a great song to start an album with - especially the band's first album! What an introduction! I can't imagine how anyone could fail to get excited by the intro or the chorus. I'm not sure what the lyrics are, but Cy Curnin's a helluva singer! I grew up in the 80s, and I consider the Fixx very central to what "the 80s" MEANS, musically. The Fixx developed an inimitable, futuristic sound without sacrificing musicality. Another example would be the Cars, and many others UNIQUE bands.
