70`s studio-based band featuring Tony Burrows (lead vocals) ,Chas Mills & John Carter who had a Worldwide hit in 1974 with Beach Baby.

The above 3 musicians had no interest in undertaking any live performances so they recruited 5 other guys to perform most live appearances. The 5 guys in the "live" band never appeared on any of the band`s studio recordings.

The record sleeve pictures which show five band members are those who undertook the live dates but dont sing on the recordings !

However the photo on the band`s first album `The First Class ` which features 8 band members is made up of the 3 who actually performed the songs plus the 5 from the "live" band - confused - you should be !

PS there are 2 performances by the band on youtube with this song . The 70`s colour video is the "live band " who dont feature on the recording.

There is also a more recent amateur video of Tony Burrows performing the song circa 2004 , 30 years after he originally recorded it.

Tony Burrows was also lead vocalist for other studio bands . . . "White Plains" (big hit, "My Baby Loves Lovin'") . . . "Brotherhood of Man" (big hit, "United We Stand") . . . "The Pipkins" (big hit, "Gimme Dat Ding") . . . and of course, probably what he is most known for, "Edison Lighthouse" (big hit, "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)") . . . also others . . .

Awww, now this song immediately takes me back to the labour club trips to Barry Island. In particular, or I should say exact few minutes of time time where myself and some friends were standing by the 'waltzers' the speakers of which were playing this. It was a hot, gloriously sunny and I was looking at a stunningly beautiful girl, one of our group, called Sheila who I was in love with, well as much in love as a fourteen-year-old could be, who was on that ride. Whenever I hear this song I am transported there, I can remember the heat, hear the sounds, feel the happiness and even catch just a shadow of that feeling of longing and love as well. It makes me happy and then it makes me just a little sad by showing me a past in which I was happy and carefree.Time travel is indeed possible, this song and quite a few others prove it.

This brings back so many happy memories of the summer of 74. This and the Three Degrees.

The greatest Beach Boys record they never made. Tony Burrows, as always, is amazing. This came out my senior year and they almost always chopped it to 3:00 or so (Darn you, Paul Drew, Bill Drake and the Storz crew!). When I got to play it a few years later, this was the version I used.

Summertime Hits - 1974This is a perfect August summer holiday pop record. It has all the right elements of a good summer hit. It entered the Dutch 'tipparade' on August 3rd 1974 and was in the last Top 40 charts broadcast from the Dutch 'offshore' Veronica chart. It was good weather that summer and exceptionally good in '76 and '77. This record still sounds a great August pop tune today. Written by Tony Burrows (who was a prolific hit writer and singer at this time), here is "The First Class" and 'Beach Baby'.Original Copyright : #UK Records. Re-released (in NL) on #BR music (June 1983)
