This was hitting right at this time 55 years ago, as the '50's were giving way to the '60's.

This number and Torquay by the Fireballs also; along with Walk Don't Run, Perfidia by the Ventures, Honky Tonk, Rebel Rouser, Tequilla, Sleep Walk and Guitar Boogie Shuffle were all must do songs for aspiring guitar instrumental groups in the early sixties. In this time frame 59-61 instrumental songs were quite popular now you hardly hear any on the radio stations except the oldies stations.

This was one of the first songs that I leaned how to play on guitar. This record knocked me out and was a great early inspiration to me. We covered this song in our early bands.

Hey, guys what's your favorite of the three (Torquay, Vaquero or Bulldog)? I don't think I could pick one.......

Not really, but also YES. Was recommended by Dan himself from a Youtube channel by Amoeba records. The video is "Whats in my bag" where musicians and celebs talk about what inspires them etc etc...... think i said it already in another comment

Ok, I have to ask. How did he bring you here? Was it an interview where they said they where an inspiration or something? Because that would be cool

the interesting thing about this band is that the term 'surf rock' didn't exist yet. That sort of came with Dick Dale, this predated dickdale.

Thanks for posting. This is perfect! The Fireball's version steaks across the sky like a huge FIREBALL!

Marc, this is my point. I do not understand why other session players would record the tune under a " Fireball" label. I think this is George Tomsco with the Fireballs. Perhaps other players have recorded it and named it Bulldog?

Why would Petty bring session players to Clovis NM ? They had gotten airplay with Torquay. Tomsco is a very competent player.

Easily one of the best guitar players from Raton, NM: George Tomsco. Recorded at Norvajak studios Clovis NM

His name should be on the song as the writer of Bulldog but it is A.T. Ryder.
