I think Tony wrote this at the same time as "Fading Lights" (a song which ended up as the final track on the Genesis album "We Can't Dance") - from what I've heard and read in interviews, he thought that Genesis as an entity was nearing its end, so he wrote these two songs - one for the band and one for himself.

@marmas58ink Not sure it comes across as life being meaningless, but more that we don't tend to think of death until we're closer to it. To me he's just describing getting older, and the act of realizing it. Much the same message that Fading Lights has, to my mind. :)

@kamwrites I understand what you're saying so well! completely agree. Still I love it A song about traveling down life's rds & the energy of the undertaking but, you turn down a side st & the parade goes passing on..as if it never knew you at all..as if you were never a part. Too true! -Poignant perhaps. But not deep at all. And as if this is what defines you. A river's current carving life by accident. U part of no greater purpose. Then U'r gone.Thats th message of such songs,tinged by nihilism

Another of his "terminal" songs...LOL! But really, this is gorgeous and I find it very interesting how many times he repeats this message in his music.

Spero che nessuno si offenderà se ricordo che il NIK di Kershaw si scrive senza la "c". Questo brano è meraviglioso, è noto che Collins e Rutherford soffocano un po' le iniziative armoniche "sopra le righe" di Banks, il quale si rifà quindi nei propri lavori solistici. Cast d'eccezione (sezione ritmica da sogno con i due "italiani alla lontana", Palladino e Colaiuta), e la voce di Nik è come sempre misurata ed efficacissima. "Still" ha ormai 20 anni ed è un vero peccato lo conoscano in pochi.

@SPeacock : sì, tutte le pagine in italiano degli album di Tony, Mike e di Mike and the Mechanics le ho scritte io. Ho cercato di essere imparziale ma davanti a buoni lavori come "Still" e "Beggar on a beach of gold" forse ho esagerato .
