Good for a 4pc kit, but nothing any bigger like my 8pc dbl bass kit.

+recordingrevolution Hey, Graham. The Kel HM-2D is discontinued. Are there any mics you would recommend for a similar sound? Or should I look and find a used one?

i barely hear that change overall cuz obviously facing kick but it definitely brings up sort of the body of the kit all together with some warmth and not a lot of High frequency information.also your EQ obviously is very subtle cuz of being the E series and that gives it a structure for sure! i can see parts or sections where this mic can be automated in n out or also can be used for a complete song of a certain type! thanks for this info !

Saw this pop up in related videos again, just wanted to pop in and say that I tried this in a session and it sounded great! Really added some power to a rock session I engineered.

Cool sound! I'll have to use this. Some of those Adele songs have such killer drum tones.

I have a preamp kind of issue I need to solve. I bought a Universal Audio LA-610, which is a tube preamp with one channel. I am gonna buy an Audient ASP880, which is a solid state preamp, with 8 channels. That leaves me with 9 channels. But, what part of the drum kit, do I use my tube preamp? I am thinking the Fat Mic, shown in this video, since tube adds warmth, and thats what the Fat Mic technique is supposed to do too, right?

With a drummer playing so soflty and minimal, you can put any microphone anywhere, it will always brings something more. Try this technique with a metal drummer who plays fast fills and beats on a monster kit and it'll ruin the sound. THERE'S NO HARD AND FAST RULES in audio recording. Experiment yourself depending on your playing, kit, room, mic, preamp and mood of the moment
