Skupinu vytvoril v roku 1966 americký producent Steve Rowland nar. 3. septembra 1932 v Los Angeles, ktorý v nej spieval solo.Ďalšími členmi boli Albert Hammond spev, gitara nar. 18. mája 144 a Mike Hazlewood nar.1941 spev, gitara, ktorý zomrel na infarkt 6. mája 2001 vo Florencii a speváčky Doreen De Veuve blondýnka a Pam "Zooney" Quinn brunetka. Pieseň bola titulnou z albumu A WAY OF LIFE a nahrala ho budúca zostava skupiny Led Zeppelin Page, Jones a Bonham spolu s Eltonom Johnom. V roku 1970 skupina zmenila názov na STEVE ROWLAND and THE FAMILY DOGG a mala hit na 2.m. v Holandsku s piesňou Symphathy, ktorá bola cover verziou hitu skupiny Rare Bird z roku 1969. Druhý a posledný album View From Rowland´s Head vydali v roku 1972. Hral na ňom gitarista Chris Spedding a spievala Ireen Sheer nar. 25. februara 1949 v Basildone.alebo Christine Holmes.Rowland súbežne pôsobil ako producent viacerých skupin medzi inými Herd alebo Dave Dee, Dozy,Beaky, Mick and Tich.
