This is actually a traditional folk ballad, nobody owns it, nor can anyone claim to have done it first. A lot like the drinking shanty's the Celtic music genre is pumping out.

you are probably saying it is out of tune because you are used to the original anglo ballad version. but this is more closely a derivative of the American Appalachian version of the folk song which i agree has a more rural sound to it, but it is not out of tune and is beautiful in its own right. and the echo adds a certain ethereal yet earthy tone to it which is endemic of the fleet foxes and american folk indie in general
