it's impossible to cheat at playing music because there are no rules

they're little sensors that go on a drum and are triggered by vibrations on the drum head. they can be plugged into a drum module and from there you can assign a sound to that drum--most popularly the bass drum--and it will be played through a speaker, ultimately making it audible to the listeners. In no way is it "cheating".

you'd be better off looking it up on wikipedia, but the gist is you put a device on the drumkit, specifically the bass drum, and it detects the impact of the pedal and plays a prerecorded drum sample every time the drum is struck. that's how i understand it anyway
