if Dio's life flashed before his eyes before he died it would have been a pretty interesting slideshow.

Is it Padavona or Padavano? On this 45 Record pictured it says "Padavano" im sure it's Padavona. right?

@SecularTrend oh yeah....the "Substitute" bit is there too for sure. There's a British emulation thing trying to happen here with "Substitute" and "Paperback Writer" that I hadn't heard before in Ronnie's earlier stuff. Dio was just such a monster vocalist from the beginning it's hard for me to think I could hear a whole song of him singing the lead and not recognize him.

@mndandy Well, I can clearly hear Ronnie's voice on the Prophets and the Red Caps...and other Electric Elves, so I don't know why his voice would be so disguised here. I think Ronnie's recognizable quality of voice was fully formed at 16 or 17 years old. It just got better. If this is him here, it's a bit strange as it sounds like some English guy trying to copy the Beach boys...

@mndandy Or shall I say that raging Anglophilia was all the rage of the day and perhaps this is a rare occasion where he goes all faux English phrasing. Not so hard to imagine.

@SecularTrend Dio wrote it (using his real name), plays bass and trumpet and sings on it. Psych-Pop was all the rage at the time and this is a very successful stab at it (and the other side is total rip off of The Who's "Substitute"). You can't really hear the patented RJD vocal bravado coming to the fore 'til The Elves "West Virginia" circa 1970.

@ds2jim Oh I know Ronald Padavona is RJD...I'm just saying you cannot hear his voice at all on this. I can't even hear Ronnie in the background. I'd be shocked if he really performed on this. All other 50s and 60s recordings of Ronnie are clearly him... This one, I don't think so.

that "Padavona" on the 45 is Ronnie before he changed his name.
