I think Jim was talking about being exhausted, with all the hanger-ons.He was looking for one real relationship which was not hooked up on the scene or the fame.He sounds so very sad saying these lyrics. Like everyone he knew he could trust was gone, and all those around him were burned out users. Nothing and no one to lift his spirits, no one to confide in or share true love with.I think the poor man died real lonely, which is a harsh way for anyone to go, yet alone a great musician and artist as him.RIP JM - gone but oh so not forgotten.

I think Jim was talking about the Illuminati. In LA Merica he talks about the rain man comin to town, and alot of illuminati suspects seem to mention the rain man in their songs, aka the devil. If he did actually "sell his soul" or join the illuminati he could be referring "they" as the illuminati, asking what they are doing in the hyacinth house to please something comparable to a lion. When he says he needs a brand new friend who doesn't bother or trouble him he could refer to God. He says he feels somebody's following him it could be them trying to kill him.. and he did die in a bathroom. The jack of hearts could be a metaphor for his life or his freedom which was being taken away for his charges in Miami. If thats the case he could be feeling regret for having have sold his soul. I wouldn't doubt the illuminati is fake too many artists talk about devils and evils and are still famous.
