Heh, did a little digging and found out that the "Hamilton" he is referring to in this song is the Hamilton Watch Company. They were the first to create the digital LED wrist watch in the early 1970's, and effectively were the reason wound wrist watches went out of style. Kinda interesting. It's also interesting to note that, even though LED wrist watches were quite expensive, they nevertheless grew in popularity, for the ease of use, and the ease in which you could tell the time.

Clockwork and cogs are fine and dandy, unless they are powering an evil automaton...

This kinda sounds like that one song off of Mary Poppins. "Chim-chiminey- chim-chim-chuery" slightly. this also sounds like SPG and Abney Park mixed together plus something else.

I love the song and the sentiment ... but the eponymous Mr. Hamilton had no affiliation with the watch company that bore his name. Hamilton Watch Company was founded in Lancaster, PA and was named after the owner of the land on which Lancaster was founded. In fact, not only was Mr. Hamilton never directly tied to any watch company, he was dead long before the digital watch was even a possibility, and the Hamilton Watch Company itself was more-or-less just selling Hamilton-branded watches it developed with other companies. The Pulsar, its digital watch, wasn't built by the Hamilton Watch Division at all, it was the parent company that developed it with Electro/Data, Inc. Even their analog watches were in decline by this point and they had been purchased by the company that would go on to become Swatch a full year before the Pulsar was released.

Oh, my gosh! This is so true about clocks! I love clocks! I worked as a photographer in an auction gallery for a while and clocks were some of my favorite things to photograph!

There was a girl in one of my classes freshman year and she could hardly read an analog clock. -_-I learned to read an analog clock long before digital, in fact, the first time I remember seeing a digital clock was in kindergarten. We have true analog clock on a fireplace mantle, it has a clear face and I remember taking it down when I was younger just so I could sit and watch the cogs spin. Clockwork is probably the best example of beauty and functionality coming together as one.
