In these days you can get no rice

No razor blades but you can get knife

In these days see the people run

They have no food but the boy have gun

In these days they don't throw the stone

Nor use the voice they use the gun alone

In these days to be an oddity

Be hunted down like a scarcity

In these days don't beg for life

Wanna take Kingston advice?

Oh please don't beg for your life

In these days the beat is militant

Must be a clash there's no alternative

In these days nations are militant

We have slavery under government

In these days in the firmament

I look for signs that are permanent

In these days with no love to give

The world will turn with no one left to live

In these days don't beg for life

Wanna take Kingston advice?

Please please, don't beg for your life

In these days...

In these days I don't know what to do

The more I see the more I'm destitute

In these days I don't know what to sing

The more I know the less my tune can swing

In these days you can get no rice

No razor blades but you can get knife

In these days see the people run

They have no food but the boy have gun

WE NEED A CLASH THERE*S NO ALTERNATIVE!THIS ALBUM REALLY HAD GOOD MUSIC ON IT BUT I FEEL MOST PEOPLE WERE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER "LONDON CALLING" AND MISSED OUT ON A REAL GEM THAT CAME OUT FOR A REALLY GREAT PRICE FOR A 3 ALBUM SET......SHAME ON SOME CLASH FANS FOR DISSING THIS ALBUM.

As the years pass, I love this album more and more. If ” Cut the Crap” never came out, they'd be a perfect(as perfect as possible) band.

I agree although I think there's a lot of throaways in Sandinista (1980). But its several incredible moments make it worthwhile.

@Ferago2 I think its 'cause Sandinista! is much more explicitly leftist than London Calling and the media don't want this to be praised.

@Ferago2 Absolutely. "Sandinista!" is the high point for the Clash -- greater melody, variety, quality than "London Calling," which also is a great album.

@Ferago2 I really enjoy both. I've been listening to London Calling for 2 days straight, time to switch to Sandinista. ;)

Great song. I've always thought that Sandinista was a much better/more interesting album than the constantly praised London Calling.

@falvaroth That's a pretty good analogy. But it doesn't sound like there's any actual treasure in the equation...

I love Sandinista! but it should have been a double not a triple. This is one that I'd have elbowed, to be honest. Joe's lyrics usually have a great flow, this one just doesn't

Thank you for including the lyrics. You have no idea what I thought they were saying. Thank you, so much : )

@iateyourmomsdog 1.) i love your username! 2.) the clash only get better and more relevent with time. they managed to capture the darker sides of humanity, which will never change, and made some kick ass social commentary in the form of music which i;m blessed to enjoy decades later. bless them

Wow, this really makes me want to but Sandinista!! How on earth do you write these songs? Cause this is not avant-garde, it's still a fucking catchy song, which is much more interesting.

I couldn't have said it better myself :) Bono doens't really sing about politics. He's really just a hopelessly deluded romantic. But at least he's still really active. Gotta give him that. RIP Joe :)
