This is a very personal song to Billy Corgan and when he sings it you can hear the raw emotion in his voice from his experiences as a child. Any covers of the song just wouldn't be the same, there's no passion or personal emotion.

There are probably very few who loved the Pumpkins more than I did when this song was released. I learned this album cover to cover in a month. But just like people these aren't meant to be compared... You have a beautfiul couple sharing something they loved with you in a beautiful way. Detach yourself from the original and allow yourself to enjoy this. A song about tree will never be as beautiful as the artist actually saw the tree. A song about a love will never be as beautiful as the love that the artist experienced. One thing I know is that both the Pumpkins and the Civil Wars have both been able to MAKE me feel something. This is beautiful. If anything, you pumpkins snobs you, take it as a "wow even the CW loved the on of the greatest alternative bands ever".

The Pumpkins are damn near impossible to cover (while doing really inventive covers themselves). This embodies what a good cover should do--inject the cover artists' essence into the existing art.
