This looks as if it is a performance in China - where they recorded their LP album for Claddagh Records "The Chieftains in China" during their tour in 1983. The Mandarin script behind them reads (downwards) "qiu zhang yue zai Zhongguo" (= 'Chieftains music ensemble in China') - although it could be a TV recording done on their return to Ireland. On the LP (now on CD) they are joined by Chinese traditional musicians. I think they were the first 'western' folk group to tour China, with The Whistlebinkies from Scotland being the second (in November 1991).
