What a heavy song! Why? Because of the deep and soft meaning to everybody that is or was fortunate enough to have a family kind of life. You feel this when listening to this song. It took great writing and mind to put words like this into singing.

I grew up in an environment where dad went to work, mom stayed home and took care of the home. A gentle man who enjoy a drink at home, bowled during his early years, and enjoyed his peace at home. He gave my brother & I lessons of life. Mother loves him still, he is now 84 ejoying his quiet life, still giving us lessons of life. As a veteran of the Korean war who received a Purple Heart, made extra money checking beach land mines during his tour, an returing to us our family is truly blessed. Married for over 60 years, I hope to be the man he is. As I am 60 & my brother is 51 we love him & cherish him. This song brings all that to mind, this song is rare, special, and needed today to show how those who become fathers need to approach that responsibility.Peace 2 ya

I am truly "BLESSED" That my FATHER who had seven sons was always their in the home being a good FATHER and a good HUSBAND and I come to realize that I have raised my son the same way...From time to time...I'm reminded this in this song.

I made this comment 4 years ago. So nice I had to say it twice. We Love you Dads and step dadsLet us guide our children to respect, honor, and appreciate good men."One of the Chi-lites greatest under-rated hits. This should be played daily or weekly in every culture in every household - so our children can learn to sing and understand appreciate quality songs with a directive purpose and humbling expressive meanings. This song, "Patches' and 'Color Him Father," are going to be added in my pro-man, real fathers, real men repitoire, to teach my children and grands to sing, and to uplift and respect our loving, and wonderful men, fathers, brothers, and sons. Let us guide our children to respect and honor good men."

I was named after my father and was proud to bear his name. I held my head high and remembered all that he taught me, about being a man. The Chi-lites are on point with this song!

These young men today don't have a clue to what it takes to be a man, let alone a daddy, so sad.
