Heard this version on smooth fm (UK) it's slower, slicker and smoother than UB40's cover. That said UB40 are a great local brummie band!!

On this day in 1974 {April 6th} the Chi-Lites performed "Homely Girl" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'. Two months earlier on February 9th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #54 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100. It reached #3 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart; also did well overseas, peaked at #5 in the U.K. and #10 in Ireland. Sadly, lead singer Eugene Record passed away on July 22nd, 2005 at the young age of 64 {cancer}. RIP Mr. Record & Mr. Clark

I'm a massive Chi Lites Fan and homely Girl is my most played song wether on Album or Single or Cd Its always playing, I was 21 when this came out but like many other girls felt this song was about me for more reasons than I care to mention, It was like they had peaked in to my life, And many women must have felt the same about it, When I was older a friend said she hated it, Then when I was at her house there was her copy on the turntable, I didn't say anything, who cares
