The Chameleons - Second Skin

One cold damp evening

The world stood still

I watched as i held my breath

A sillhouette i thought i knew

Came through,someone spoke to me

Whispered in my ear

This fantasy's for you

Fantasy's are in this year

My whole life flashed, before my eyes

I thought, what they say is true

I've shed my skin, and my disguise

And cold on the naked eye

Emerged from my cocoon

And a half remebered tune played softly in my head

He said

He turns smiling...and said

I realise a miracle,is due

I dedicate this melody,to you

I realise a miracle,is due

I dedicate this melody,to you

But is this the stuff dreams are made of?

If this is the stuff dreams are made of

No wonder i feel like i'm floating on air

No wonder i feel like i'm floating on air

I realise a miracle,is due

I dedicate this melody,to you

But is this the stuff dreams are made of?

If this is the stuff dreams are made of

No wonder i feel like i'm floating on air

No wonder i feel like i'm floating on air

No wonder i feel like i'm floating on air

Everywhere

Oh, it feels like i'm everywhere

Like when you fail to make the connection, you know vital it is

Oh when something slips through your fingers you know precious it is

And you reach the point when you know

It's only your second skin

It's only your second skin

Someone's banging on my door

The lyrics seem OK, but I think they have a few errors, especially in the refrain. Therefore the correct lyrics should be like this, otherwise there are parts of it that do not make sense:One cold damp evening, the world stood stillI watched as I held my breathA silhouette I thought I knew came through.Someone spoke to me, whispered in my ear,"This fantasy's for you, fantasies are in this year."My whole life flashed before my eyesI thought what they say is trueI've shed my skin and my disguiseAnd cold on the naked eyeEmerged from my cocoonAnd a half remebered tune played softly in my headHe saidHe turns smiling, and he said,"I realise a miracle, is it you?I dedicate this melody to youI realise a miracle, is it you?I dedicate this melody to you.But if this is the stuff dreams are made ofIf this is the stuff dreams are made ofNo wonder I feel like I'm floating on airNo wonder I feel like I'm floating on airI realise a miracle, is it you?I dedicate this melody to youBut if this is the stuff dreams are made ofIf this is the stuff dreams are made ofNo wonder I feel like I'm floating on airNo wonder I feel like I'm floating on airNo wonder I feel like I'm floating on airEverywhereOh, it feels like I'm everywhereLike when you fail to make the connection you know how vital it isOh, when something slips through your fingers you know how precious it isAnd you reach the point when you know it's only your second skinIt's only your second skin."(Someone's banging on my door)

Does anyone else ever get the creepy "abandoned house" feeling that is very hard to shake? I think the uploader might, judging by this picture and his comments on it. If you feel it too, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I've felt it since I was little and it's very unsettling.

I actually emailed him and it has been many years so I forgot his email address, but if I remember correctly, I got it from a fan website...I'm sure if you google The Chameleons, you'll find their main website and I think his email address is on there...It was '08 when we spoke via email, but he was very pleasant and responded quickly! Cheers!!

Mark is such a gifted songwriter -- his lyrics are so reflective, pensive -- yet not wimpy or overly sentimental. I mean... they literally punch you right in the face sometimes. I really respect this band. You mentioned that you wrote to him & complimented his music? How can I do the same? Does he have a youtube channel? Thanx! (~_~)

I'm so in love with this song. My first love affaire, in Winter-time, enchanted by these overvelming emotions. can easily break up into tears as I hear it right now. It is magic.

The Chameleons UK reached into my cavity, grabbed hold and never let go. What a band and what words that make me hope that one day, I will do the same for you! Wahi'

@ukpunk1 Well, thank you, my friend! Every single facet of this song is perfect and brilliant....I included it in my playlist of my favorite obscure punk/new wave songs. I don't have them in order cuz that's just way too difficult. Several years ago I e-mailed Mark Burgess and told him just how much of a diode I thought he was and I told him my favorite songs were this and In Shreds and he wrote back and said "Really, those are my favorites too." He's a super cool dude and so are you!! Take Care

Some of the greatest lyrics ever written: I realize a miracle is due...I dedicate this melody to you...but is this the stuff dreams are made of? If this is the stuff dreams are made of, no wonder I feel like I'm floating on air When you fail to make the connection, you'll know how vital it is and when something slips through your fingers, you'll know how precious it is and you'll reach the point and you'll know it's only your second skin That's what you call a masterpiece everyone.

I love singing the final part drunk and slurring all the words and being as loud as I possibly can.
