It is not a legend, Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb said with their own mouths they wrote To Love Somebody for Otis Redding to record, but he died before he was able to record it. So the Gee Gees recorded it themselves and the rest of the music industry knows it is a great song or there would not be so many covers of it by so many famous people. This version is very soulful, the version by Josh Ledet sounds more like Ottis would have sang it though.

The Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood threw the Bee Gees in a room and told them to write a song for Otis redding. This was in the early spring of 1967. Otis, as someone else pointed out, died before he could record his version. I love The Chambers Brothers. I got to see them in 1969...great concert.

Wow. Didn't know the Otis Redding story. This song would have really suited him. The closest I could find to how I thing Otis would have done it is the James Carr version. One of the most interesting versions is the Eddie Lovett reggae version.
