It turns out that most of the Cars tunes I love were Ben Orr on vocals. This was among his best, also "Cruiser" I will miss his sound.

Slance1 -- Thank you for posting my favorite song from this album here. Maybe my favorite Cars song overall. I can't imagine how anyone could fail to love this song!

But, please don't misunderstand me, The Cars DID do a great job on the song overall, onstage. They simply didn't have enough singers onstage to reproduce the full vocal arrangement. I loved seeing Ric Ocasek strumming an acoustic guitar for the first time in Cars history. And BTW, for those who don't know, to keep up that double-time country strumming for a song of this length is a bit of an endurance test! The chords aren't hard, but the strumming can wear a player out!

"OVER produced"? You gotta be kidding. This recording is a masterpiece. The intertwining of multiple harmony parts allow Ben to harmonize with himself, along with the others. There are probably about 24 different voice tracks, total. Taking stereo into consideration, that's still around 12 tracks per ear. The parts are beautifully arranged (or "endlessly entwined") so nothing clashes with anything. It's Beach-Boys-level complexity, and more sophisticated than anything the Beatles ever did.

I'm sorry, but no. This is my favorite Cars song, so don't misunderstand me. They do NOT do this better live, because the backup vocals are just not there the way they are here. Here, Ben is the strongest singer in the backup vocals, as well as lead singer. He's backing himself up with the others's help. The backups intertwine with the lead. The backup vocals are all double- or quadruple-tracked for the stereo spread. They just don't have enough singers onstage. But they did the best they could.

@Cuteblondie1972 yeah he does, but thats what made The Cars so unique. They had a broad tapestry of talent both in music style and looks.

Oh yeah, OVER produced is right...makes it sound kind of cheezy. The 'live' one is MUCH MUCH MUCH better! What a difference.
