Man sounds like they are on some kind of artificial energy, but I still love those songs

On this day in 1973 {February 2nd} the musical weekly series 'The Midnight Special' debuted on the NBC-TV network; the show ran for 8.5 years with a grand total of 350 episodes...The Byrds appeared on that premiere show and performed "So You Want to Be a Rock 'n Roll Star'"; and exactly six years earlier on February 2nd, 1967 it was at #61 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart and twenty-four days later on February 26th, 1967 it peaked at #29 for one week...

"you gotta see these 'acts' as what they truly are."That's a little cold and highly inaccurate. The band members were fixtures in the folk music scene before meeting and discovering that their voices harmonized beautifully. They created folk rock because that is the two music forms they loved, and not to produce teenage hits. Remember that they weren't Dino, Desi and Billy, who covered their covers. They were artists, making changes. That was their act.Crosby's voice sounds normal, for his age then. He sounded like a rug rat at times. He's probably hyperventilating at the end of his speaking when his pitch seems to rise. ;)

aww you get negative votes for telling the truth? McGuinn was that key aspect for the framing of the product. No joke. so why are they on my Coke a cola promotional record and stacks of other teeny bop promotiona material?? Columbia wasn't a small label and got lucky with their teen sensations. I totally love the Byrds sound but c'mon you gotta see these 'acts' as what they truly are.

Charlie Says

Howl of jet engines hits same note as screaming children. girls hang onto chickenwires shake heads and screamers. Out of Lear Jet. Got a denim jacket over his shoulder. Chunky knit, pale as his pale face. Charlie halo by camera flash. Tries to say, but noise overloads all mikes, all ears. Little Charlie me goes to hands runs fingers along wire teasing girls to tears. Aypes in Aypemobile happy police siren

What's the Rush! That tempo is almost comical.

Shut up already Crosby!

The tempo of this song pre-dates LA punk and speed metal by 25 years and its bass line and melody is entirely South African based, hence Hugh Maskela doing the trumpet lines. Chris Hillman is ripping. It's admittedly rough, but who really wants to hear the Eagles duplicate their recordings note for note in concert? Joie de vivre DC !

I wish to GOD Fatso Crosby was rapped in the mouth and McGUINN introduced his own song! The Monterey set was marred by WAY too much crosby, including an awful version of "Hey, Joe". Crosby was GOOD as long as Mike Clarke was there to beat him up.

They could have tough David about common sense, It was their lost to fire him. He was by far the most talented member of the Byrds & that's saying a lot. Exhibit A: Draft Morning B: His Musical Vibe, which is obviously missed in every Byrds record after Notorious C: All it was to come to him as a songwriter. I think Getting fired did a world of damage to his self-worth, explaining the strange modesty complex he portrayed then on which I think had a lot to do with his drug problem. Rest my case.
