The Byrds - "All I Really Want To Do" - 8/12/65 video free download

Lip synched performance from the band's only TV appearance in Great Britain; "Top Of The...".

The TV debut of David Crosby's cape!!

Note how the host spells out their name: B-Y-R-D-S.

This was to avoid confusion with Ronnie Wood's band, "The Birds", who were starting to make noise around town.

As soon as they got there, The Byrds all got sick; taking them into a "Proper climate" especially affected Chris Hillman, who had to be shot full of vitamins and penicilin just to make the broadcast!!

Note Gene Clark grinning ear to ear; this is rare, but he just spent the previous night hanging w/Paul McCartney. :-)

Michael Clarke was out club hopping w/Brian Jones & John Entwhistle.

The U.K. tour pretty much bombed; bad sound, their weakness as a live act, and the "Anti-stage presence" that they were known for just didn't fly with the Brits.

I always thought this was a simpering crap version of a great song. The Byrds eventually redeemed themselves with 'eight miles high'.

Crosby was already baked as fuck in 1965! what an icon of the 60's....If i could come back in another life i'd want to be David Crosby from 1965 to 1975. Dude took partying and free love to a whole new level.

Jim McGuinn is at his ultimate cool-itude in this video. I love the glasses and the plaid jacket. They all look so young here. Difficult to believe the cute David Crosby turned into the bloated monster he became. Jim McGuinn still looks much the same.

The Byrds in London! This was the biggest American band in the summer of 1965, as far as new groups for the time. Amazing to see just how great the Beatles were, because the Byrds were INCORRECTLY compared to the Beatles, and that misled many people in England.

It wasn't reallly so... by that time the TV producers wouldn't let you play live, because the broadcasting technology was not up to that task, and besides that, they would not take the risk of having off beat notes and minor tuning issues....

I'm familiar with "Feel A Whole Lot Better". Also, although a few years later, Crosby's "Mind Gardens". But except for Eight Miles High, their best songs were covers, e.g. Goffin-King's "I Wasn't Born To Follow". But, you know, performing and writing are separate skill sets, and my faves are nightclub acts like Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Chet Baker...none of whom wrote their own stuff.

Funny how cool and original I thought they were, but they couldn't even play their songs live nor even write them (until Eight Miles High and Hey, Mr. Spaceman).
