One of the BIG 4 on the east coast CKLW reached from Detroit/Windsor all the way to New England just like WLS,WKBW,WABC. And throw in WOWO in Ft Wayne IN and WCKY Covington/Cincinati just for fun.

In the day, did you ever think that you would miss CKLW or any of the other wide format AM radio stations?

Is that for sure? I've always shuddered when I heard that song, thinking they ate their buddy. Sharing their water with a bird? Seems to me a bird doesn't drink much. Sounds more like they deprived, then ate, a human. But what do I know? I'd hate to eat the bird, but again, how would two grown men be full if the two of them had nothing to eat but a little canary?

I know it's two years later, but Gigrantula was referring to an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, wherein one of the characters posed the above question.

I used to have this album and there was a song on it called "The Prince of Thieves" which also got a lot of airplay. I preferred it to this one.

To answer ALL questions here, re its current run, it was JANUARY 1971. I remember it well. You might also want to check out D.O.A. by Bloodrock, also current in 1/71. A song about a road accident.

I had this album from CKLW. Grew up in Albion, Michigan and listened to The Big 8 all the time. Great radio station in its day and covered the midwest of America. Good old AM - went a lot further than FM.

Check it on Wikipedia, there were 2 revised editions. The "stomach" verse was changed in one and "hell" was bleeped out in the other.

I thought he was referencing the mst3k skit from monster a go-go.

Madeleine Fisher

It's a reference to MST3K. In the middle of the episode Monster-A-Go-Go they discuss Pina Coladas and this song in terms of pop culture.
