"I've never been more excited to be in a band as I am right now," says Jonathan Pretus, lead singer and guitarist for New Orleans based band, The Breton Sound. Considering his past projects, that says a lot.

The Breton Sound began in earnest with Jonathan Pretus and longtime friend and collaborator, Stephen Turner (lead guitar). This fruitful early period produced an ambitious E.P., Eudaemonia, one that covered a wide range of influences, combining Pretus's Beatlesesque pop sensibility with Turner's Rush-infused guitar work. Over the course of the next year, the two would perform and tour in support of Eudaemonia aided by a cast of friends filling in on bass and drums. During that time, the band solidified into it's current lineup. In addition to Pretus and Turner, The Breton Sound include Brian Pretus (bass/vocals), and Jonathan Alcon (drums/percussion). Turner and Alcon had previously forged a strong musical bond in Epic, their experimental progressive rock group; and Brian, Pretus's younger brother, brings years of experience in New Orleans tight knit punk rock community.

While musically they have varied influences, from Weezer to Van Halen, The Descendants to Dredg, Oasis to Foo Fighters, The Breton Sound's sound has become a focused brand of rock that is just as impressive musically as it is restrained. After a year's worth of touring, writing, and demos, the band is a leaner and tighter version of itself. Clever lyrics and harmonies sit atop melodic instrumental lines and driving rhythms -- all within the context of a well-crafted pop song. Vocally, Jonathan and Brian harmonize as only brothers can, while Turner's guitar and Alcon's drumming ride in perfect lockstep with each other. Nowhere is this more apparent than on their, yet to be released, new E.P. These new songs find The Breton Sound reunited with producer Tom Drummond of Better than Ezra, who also produced Eudaemonia. Recorded at Fudge Studios in New Orleans with Drummond at the helm, The Breton Sound have created their strongest set, songs that are definitive, the sound of a band that knows exactly who they are. With this new E.P., a New Orleans Jazz Fest debut, and more touring on the horizon, 2013 is looking like a breakout year for The Breton Sound.

And, that is exciting, indeed.
