Rick Rivets , former member of the New York Dolls , decided that it was a time for a change. When he formed The Brats , he was definately looking for a change and new image. He started with Sparky Donovan as a drummer. When he ventured into the MUSIC BOX on Union Turnpike in Queens , where you could find the best in imports and Bootlegs alike, and he met Keith Ambrose (WEST) and saw the Rod Stewart influenced look and sound , he knew he was up to something. Then Rick found David Leeds hanging out at Max's Kansas City one night , and had the group they were looking for. The band rehearsed in a loft on Broadway and Houston , before moving into Davids loft on Bleeker Street. This is in fact the same spot where they did shows with up in comers KISS opening the nights festivities. With songs in the set list like "Be A Man" ,"criminal Guitar" and standards by the yardbirds Stones etc. they were on the right track . Even Alice Cooper is supposed to have actually came up with the bands name , when they were hanging out in Max's , and around new york . Even Alice took interest in the band . Thats when the brats came up with the song for him "I'm so Cruel". The Brats plyed their first show opening for The New York Dolls . and played all over New York, Jersey areas. AntonTimps joined in on the lead guitar in 73 with all the flash they needed it was ON ! Anton did leave in 74 but came back in the early 80's as "THE SECRETS" .David Mitchell came in for a second then he was out . About the same time David Leeds left the band as well . Thats when Mark Mayo on guitar, and Mark Polott on Bass ,came in. They came from" Haystacks Balboa" , who were on Mercury Polydor ,and later played together in "Murder Inc." as well . As a note They also brought in the now famous "First Rockstar On The Moon" off of the Max's Kansas City album, which was recorded at Electric Lady Studios .With Scott Sheets now on lead and Joey "TV" Guido on bass , Sadly some of the last great Rock "n" Roll of our time and Rick Rivets went on his own for a more leather looks with the Corpse Grinders. the band brought in Ron Blanchard in 77 to replace Rivets . enjoyed great local success at Max's . Scott Sheets left to go with Pat Benatar. Some lineup changes , and a name change to the secrets into the 80's just didnt last long enough... Now here they are in all the glory of the 70's "THE BRATS".
