EphemeralInspiration

I was at this taping. I was nearly 11 (!) scary how young their audience was. I remember how exciting it was writing in for tickets and receiving them in the post. Was the best thing about being in Melbourne for those two years while I was growing up.

All those shows (Top of the Pops, Countdown, etc.) were lip-synced, but the Rats mostly didn't even pretend to be really playing (watch the drummer in this one!). There's a pretty funny video of them doing Rat Trap on (I believe) TOTP where Geldof does the sax part by blowing into a candelabra. One of the reasons I loved this band is because they never took themselves too seriously.

I used to listen to "The Fine Art Of Surfacing" before going out Saturday nights. Singing at the top of my lungs "On a night like this I deserve to get kissed at least once or twice...." Dreaming......

@CyareMordmin It was supposed to be a measured piece of sardonicity based on the fact that I, myself, think that Johnny Borrell is a third-rate Bob Geldof...in his vocal style and his delivery. xx

@ralucagymnast I would say from the end of the 90's until now, most music which is produced now is shite; I despise all this "X-Factor" manufactured rubbish which is so popular nowadays; its utterly abhorrent. Money, and the lust for it, has killed music, the same way as its killed the passion in football: its all about how much you've got now, so sad:(

This is such a fantastic song, I love it more now than I did way back in 1979, because as you get older, you appreciate great music more. We were spoiled for great music at one time; now its all shit.

God...you can tell they have been listening to Razorlight. The singer is copying Johnny Borrell's whole act...shameless!!!!
