I worked with Earl at Lockheed in the seventies. He was my Lead man, and he was one of the finest persons I have ever had the honor of knowing. He taught me how to run a boring mill and lathe. His word was his bond and while we were working together Earl and Bill went to Nashville to some shindig and the company played their music over the PA during break. I would have liked to have heard them when they were in their prime. Earl and Bill were very religious and could have made it to the big time but would not entertain in saloons and places where alcohol was served. Earl had a down to earth attitude about everything and never got excited that I know of.

The Bolick Brothers, aka The Blue Sky Boys, were a tremendous influence on The Louvins and The Everly Brothers.

Wade Mainer sold his banjo to Elderly Instruments at age 105 and announced he was retiring from live performances at the request of his family. RIP Wade Mainer. That banjo had been played in The White House for FDR! I think asking price was $105,000. $1000 for every year Wade had been on this planet. Imagine still performing at age 105.

You want to hear country today? Turn your radio OFF! Go to Nashville. Maybe go to the Country Music Hall of Fame, or visit the Louvin Brothers Museum. Walk Broadway. Go to the Loveless on Fridays. Go to a church in Nashville.
