I was merely whelmed when their newest album came out. But in reflection, I like that they slowed things down and smoothed out. They really show their soul chops here, but still feel heavy like The Black Keys always do. Lyrics, organization, and overall feel: stellar.

The reason everyone is calling this album pop is because of it's pop sound and the continental departure from their identity as hard rocking blues mavericks, with a dirty soulful sound so loud in the mass consciousness that it's roughness and soulfulness gave them a stature above and beyond almost all other music on the scene when they emerged into the popular consciousness, not to mention their blues rock roots ... this album is very pop oriented (as is popular, as in embracing their popularity) ... despite that this album is stellar it's great music but it's not the sort of music that blues rock enthusiasts appreciate (well blues rock purists at the very least). and I wouldn't compare them to one direction although I get the exaggeration I would compare this album more to maroon 5 ... I don't know if it's the studio demanding a more popular sound from the band or if the band is just taking a new direction ... but listen to Chulahoma and listen to this ... if you like one you probably won't like the other ... or you may like both but you'll definitely see a massive gap in creative direction ...

The only comments i see on this video are people saying "omg i cant believe so many people are hating on this song / album" yet I cannot see a single negative comment about this song.

Eh, I like it, it's nice and chill. I'm not a huge Black Keys fan, and maybe that's why I like it, but you can't blame a band for trying something new. Maybe people felt the same way about the Beatles back in the day going from Rubber Soul to Revolver to Sgt. Pepper.

To me they changed their music a lot for this album, they let in some phsycadelic music into their songs which people arent used to from the black keys. Thats why people are giving it flak. This isnt my favorite album released by them.
