Interesting how they'd suddenly roll off the treble in the middle of the mix, to make room for guitar or other higher-frequency overdubs. I guess you have to do that when you only have four tracks.

It's a nice bass part and sound, but I think his best bass parts and best recorded bass sounds were those from 1967. Everything the Beatles recorded from Penny Lane till Magical Mistery Tour is a pure delight of bass tones. Paperback Writer is good, but they (Paul and Geoff Emerick, the Beatles' engineer) were clearly still experimenting in 1966.
