The Beatles - Old Brown Shoe 1969

"Old Brown Shoe" is a song written by George Harrison that was first released by The Beatles as a B-side to "The Ballad of John and Yoko". It is also available on the Beatles' compilation albums The Beatles 1967-1970, Hey Jude and Past Masters, Volume Two.

Harrison commented about this song: "I started the chord sequences on the piano, which I don't really play, and then began writing ideas for the words from various opposites... Again, it's the duality of things -- yes no, up down, left right, right wrong, etc." This idea was also prevalent in their earlier single, "Hello, Goodbye".

The Beatles' recording of this song features lead vocals from Harrison, and backing vocals from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The unusual bass sound was achieved by tracking McCartney's bass with Harrison's lead guitar. Although Lennon did play guitar on the track, this was removed and replaced by the organ sound.

The song was recorded during the sessions for the Abbey Road album. The group had previously performed it a number of times over three days during the Let It Be sessions at Apple Studios in January 1969, which have been widely bootlegged. Harrison made a solo demo on electric guitar at EMI Studios on 25 February 1969 (along with "Something" and "All Things Must Pass"), which was released on Anthology 3 in 1996.

In 1980 John Lennon claimed that he was responsible for the inclusion of "Old Brown Shoe" as the B-side of "The Ballad of John and Yoko" single.

* George Harrison -- vocal, guitars, organ

* Paul McCartney -- backing vocal, piano, bass

* John Lennon -- backing vocal

* Ringo Starr -- drums

In other news, I have added the lyrics to this song so you can sing along, or perhaps learn the song! This is how I learned my first Beatles song! Enjoy :)

All that is now

The Beatles were very inspired, inspiration comes from beyond the mind, it can manifest as talent, intuition, insight. People can tune in and write a song, right a book, come up with a new idea. The truth is the inspiration just passes through them. For the first time in history we can know how life fundamentally works. Google *Truth contest* and check out the top entry. Also page 59, is a Beatles section that will change the way you listen to the Beatles forever.

Hijinks Gamma2 said: "This is a really good song, and it's a slight bummer it never became as popular as some of the other Beatles songs did. But you know what scares me? As I waited for this song, which is an old-fashioned classic rock love song, you know what I hear in the suite room across from mine? A sleazy gangsta rap song about some guy who wants to have mindless sex with a girl he refers to as a bitch. Its scary how song lyrics have changed so drastically over the past 40-50 years. And not a good scary."OMG, I can totally related! I just finished watching a video here on DJ Paul in which he is declared "A great musician!" I almost puked! You are so right, it's scary indeed! :(

George Harrison stated that he is the bass player in this one. There's a doubt 'bout lots of songs, but this one is sure played by harrison

This song has a terrible mix... Harrison's voice is bizarrely distant

McCartney isn't playing bass. George is - Though I can totally get how some miss this, as it was no doubt recorded on Paul's gear - BUT the touch, that's where it's obviously NOT Paul. The guy playing strikes the strings like a guitar player - harder than bass players do. Paul's touch was perfect for bass; firm, but never too weak.Give it another listen with this in mind.
