And now, The Magical Orchestra presents one of John Lennon's greatest collaborations with Sir Paul McCartney, and the first Beatles recording to employ a full orchestra of 40 players.
Producer & Arranger George Martin originally intended to book an 80-piece group but couldn't justify spending so much money on a pop song. Ringo joked, "Why not use half an orchestra and record them twice?" George Martin thought Ringo's idea was brilliant, and overdubbed the orchestra not twice, but five times! A film was made of the session, showing some of London's finest musicians wearing full evening dress... and all manner of Halloween masks, purchased by the Beatles' roadie Mal Evans at a nearby costume store.
David Amram conducts The Magical Orchestra (sporting their own array of Halloween garb), and at the end, pianists Michael Schiano and Keith Hill belt out one of the most famous (and longest) piano chords in musical history.
