Great drumming. I became a little concerned about his skills when I heard how simplistic the other drum tracks were, but this is nice.

Bernard Purdie is a great drummer, way better than Ringo obviously, but this ain't him playing here.

Once and for all.....Ringo Starr set the bar for pop / rock drumming. His time, energy, and taste were impeccable. BUT....he was / is not in the same league of drummers as Bernard Purdie, Steven Gadd, Hal Blaine, Earle Palmer. There are things that those drummers are capable of (because they studied the basic rudiments) that Ringo was / is not capable of and that includes the ride cymbal pattern heard on the final master of "I Feel Fine". Watch any of the numerous live videos of Ringo playing that song and pay attention to his right hand on the cymbal bell. Then listen to the studio recording. End of story.

I've always felt that Ringo's drumming on I Feel Fine (and on Rain) is absolutely superb! He was an expert drummer and any sneering comments to the contrary are without foundation.

John never said that Ringo wasn't the best drummer in the Beatles. That myth has grown to a life of it's own. A comedian doing a joke interview as John Lennon said it. Wish I could tell you who but I don't know. John would never say that.
