Hi David my home base was Pompey and was drafted back there in 1968. I remember a place on Southsea sea front opposite one of the piers, South parade I think, anyway it was a mecca for matelots and called the festival bar/club, better known to us skates as The fess bar, does that ring any bells? Hi Dickie, Me too! Except it was in Portsmouth when I was a Dockyard apprentice. Can't remember the dance hall name but it was on Southsea Front, opposite the pier - very popular with all the RN matelots. LOL!
