I can't actually believe there is people in here that defend mike love. I recommend watching the documentary "Brian Wilson song writer". Pretty much if mike would have shut up and stop making fun of his music after coming back from tour and let Brian Wilson do all the drugs he wanted smile would have been released today. People who talk shit about Mike are not/ do not understand what it is to be in a band...I am in a band that plays a certain kind of music and if one of my band members came in and said "Hey guys I wrote an album of banjo anthems" we (the other band members) would probably not want to incorporate banjo music into our live set...I am a huge Smile fan btw...

Mike Love was focused on business and pulling the Beach Boys name as a summertime nostalgia act whereas the Wilsons were the true creative and talented heart and soul of the band. Brian was rocketing toward his creative peak, way ahead of his time, and Mike didn't appreciate him "fucking up the formula" making complex, weird, psychedelic music that was less lucrative than records about surfing. His place in history will always be the asshole that shattered what could've been.
