Good Timin' as I envisioned the 1974 version would've been had it been released. I didn't have much material to work with, but I believe a release in 1974 would've been less pollished and slick than what Bruce Johnston produced for L.A Light in 1979.

This mix has a grittier sound, more backing track and less oooooh's in the verses. The vocal track is damaged so there might be a slight edit fault somewhere.

"Polished and slick" isn't always bad. Particularly with the Beach Boys, it's usually a very good thing. The final version of the song is just gorgeous and heavenly. I don't hear anything in this mix here that makes it a stronger recording, in any way.

15 BIG ONES was supposed to be a 2 record set of oldies and newies but when it became a one record set some songs got bumped they didn't include all the oldies they recorded either

The backing track was recorded in 1974 during the Caribou sessions which was an attempt to make a follow-up album to Holland. Unfortunatly the Endless Summer comp was released that summer and went straight to #1 making touring far more attractive and lucrative given that the sessions hadn't been too productive. It's OK and Had To Phone Ya were also recorded during this period and were released on the 15 Big Ones album two years later, why this wasn't included is anybody's guess.

Why wasn't it released in 74? Thanks
