SMILE

SIDE ONE (Track 09) - written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks

Here is the official Capitol Records release of The Beach Boys' long-awaited "Smile" modified to make it sound like how it would have been in 1967.

The album is split into two sides, unlike the official release which uses three sides (which I find a waste of space and inauthentic). Enjoy!

Brian used this as the last part of "Surf's Up."

If only he had not dropped so much acid. He had some good stuff going here.

1:16 You can sing the beginning to "Surf's Up" over this part! The "bygone, bygone" even matches up with the muted horns. Brian Wilson- the definition of musical genius.

It's a shame that Brain Wilson never realized how much better he was than Lennon & McCartney. He was too humble.

The albums aren't sloppily cut vignettes, if you were intelligent enough to the progressive era of symphony music that was happening in rock music at the time, you could just as well compare these 'TRANSITIONS' to fragmented and seperately titled King Crimson or Early Genesis songs from the same track. Ignorance is not bliss when you're bashing Brian Wilson's masterpeice with your moronic unfed mind

The lack of lyrics is mostly due to the project not being done. These songs are all the tracks that were intended for the album, regardless of if they were finished. Van Dyke Park left the project and vocals couldn't be finished.

Wow! I have never heard this song. It is like the mid 60's again and hearing a new Beach Boy song!!

These are great songs but notice on most of these tracks on Smile are more harmonics and very little lyrics. Would have been better if Brian developed these songs more.

Wow, listening to the songs from this album is almost frustrating - they're almost "there," but not quite. I think if this had been released in 1967 in this form, it would have done OK, but not great. A lot of the songs have great potential, but in a lot of cases they lack discipline, or have passages needing "something else" to make it jump out at you. Though they have great voices, their emphasis on their voices in place of an instrumental arrangement leaves me feeling it needs something more.

I love the music composition on this one, so haunting and mysterious.
