I love this film and I love this song. Like the main character I have travelled a lot and met some very interesting people that I have bonded with. I have made close friendships that have lasted despite distance and the passage of time. We have remained in contact thankfully because of technology...mainly emails, sometimes Messenger, texts, Skype and Facebook. I took a creative writing course at The Irish Writer's Centre in Dublin with Greg Baxter a number of years ago...it was supposed to be a fiction course...at least that's what I signed up for but he had a fascination with memoir. Still, we did read a lot of fiction and he introduced me to a lot of great fiction writers such as Anais Nin and Henry Miller. Baxter wasn't a big fan of Anais Nin's writing though he must have had a level of respect for her because he did discuss her work. He was a much bigger fan of the more macho Henry Miller. Anyways, it was around this time that I was reading Anais Nin's work that I, like Anais, felt a calling (like in the Pure Shores song). I felt the beach calling to me and I told a friend in Australia via email or Facebook (can't remember which) that I felt it calling to me and I was afraid that if I didn't go then that I might never go. Funnily enough, I heard this Pure Shores song again around last Christmas and I hadn't heard it for years. I was driving through Mullagh in Cavan and it came on the radio. It was a real blast from the past or should I say the 90s? It really brought me back to that time and made me think in particular of my time in Tel Aviv in 1999 when I spent a lot of time on the beach hanging out with an American girl and some really nice Colombians.
