On the vinyl LP this was the last song, while the CD changed the order. It was a great parting song for the greatest band in history.

Geoff....hey, I am Jeff....my grandmother introduced me to the band with Stage Fright, an eight track. I was then, as a teenager, hooked. When I listened a few years later to Northern Lights, Southern Cross I realized I was listening to some master musician story telling poets...once in a lifetime stuff. Anyway, I agree. So good it brings tears to my eyes. Still does! Still does.

This was my fave LP of Band, was really great Garth bringing all his sounds in this, besides i think all other contriutions, like richards voice and robbies guitar in this.

I didn't really appreciate them when they first started but I sure do love them now. Too bad they are no longer together and three of them gone. They were just plain great.

My thoughts and prayers are with Levon Helm and his family. Heartbreaking to be losing another one of the great ones.

What a voice. I could listen to Richard Manuel sing a phone book.

I remember as a young boy, probably 12/13 reading the Pink Section of the San Francisco Chronicle on my parent's bed on Sunday and seeing the Bill Graham ad for The Last Waltz concert... didn't have any idea who The Band was, though i liked music at the time, and was starting to play guitar...now that seems like ancient history.

@MartinSoundLabs Richard, actually! Hard to tell them apart sometimes- they're both so amazing.

Damn. This is all there is, I guess. I am 59 years old and this song's beauty helped me keep my lone exquisite essentially worthless sanity so many years ago. Now, decades later...and all there is is 2686 looks at an old song, a great song, and few fine comments. A beauty soon to be forgotten, I suppose, like so many other songs more and less worthy. . I liked it, it is a good one. Ragman

This is one of my favourite songs by the Band! A rare treat to hear them with this kind of 70s soft rock sound. A similar feel can be found in "Right as Rain" and "Let the Night Fall" from Islands. This song is so sublime to me.

@sparky513599 I'm with ya mate! I'm 20 and i can't stand the music of today! (I mainly listen to 80's and 90's metal, can't stand modern day rap and all that garbage!) This is the purest form of music, played by musicians who are playing because they love music, not because of money! (Even though Robbie sold out) Brilliant song from an even better album!
