Actually this is one of my favorite albums to work out to. Used to be anyway. Slam Dancing at their concerts was great! East Coast down and up - Burnin' back those Alabama Slammers and Kamikazee's! Florida - Athens - Charleston - Atlanta - Charlotte - DC - Baltimore - Philly - NYC - Buffalo - Rochester Dome Arena - Boom! Done it all and it was GREAT! (coulda been some places in between - but?)

My favorite Song from this Album!! The one that, I feel, really stands up the tests of time. It is so DEEP!!! A lil' different from much of their other from this time period. I love the Montage!!! The roulette wheels all seem to have a hidden meaning . . .

My Fred-Schneider signed Whammy with dick squiggly is one of my most prized adornments to my living room wall. That and my autographed Jim Nabors album. Both are framed.

(cont.) Fred looks up without moving his hands from the V of space he's created in the record rack. He doesn't want to lose his place. He's unimpressed. "Thanks," he says half-heartedly. It's understandable. He must get bothered a lot. Not as much as Jim Nabors or Jack Webb, but pretty much. "Can I get your signature, please?" The clerk still hovering says, "Don't do it, Fred." Probably because of that, he does. Fred draws a squiggly with a prominent phallus on the white pant leg of the photo.

My brothers and I all love Athens music, real R.E.M. fans too, since the beginning. So I'm thrilled to be in Fred's presence. In Song for the Future Generation, you hear Fred say he likes collecting records. He does. I go and buy Whammy on vinyl and go over to Fred. He's plowing through the weird stuff, like 60s personalities records, unclassifiable stuff, like the Rod McKuen or Jim Nabors or Jack Webb sides. "Mr. Schneider, hi, I just have to tell you how much your music means to me." cont.

..and so I hear that unmistakable lovely Athens drawl of Fred. He was fending off being feted by the store clerk, a Jim Morrison look-a-like by the way. My heart jumped out of my chest. The B-52s were my first concert. I saw them at the Orlando Jai-Alai fronton when I was about 12. The Whammy tour. See above for more...

I met Fred Schneider in 1999 - I think - just a brush with celebrity, really. It was the best and worst day of my life. I had THE shittiest day at work at The Orlando Sentinel newspaper. I real grilling from my peers for being an asshole. They were right. I was young. Then to make myself feel better after work, I went to buy myself a play pretty, a record, at this amazing used record store in Orlando called Rock 'n' Roll Heaven. It's still there. Still awesome. See above for the rest ....

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the B52s and have from the very beginning but I just never could get into this lp. I thought most of the songs were weak. And I bought it back when "Don't Worry" was one of the tracks. Actually, that song and "Song for a Future Generation" were the only songs that I thought rose to their usual standard. It's all in the ear of the beholder, I suppose. I'm glad somebody loved the album as much.
