More like Rick Rubin pulls the strings. This song is 10x better live without Rubin's poison touch on it!

I just listened to a live version and this one, wtf happened with the studio one? It's terrible in comparison

I have to remind everyone who has been bad mouthing this song that the Avetts have sang about you in the last verse of 10,000 words: " and they'll be quick to point out our shortcomings and how the experts all have had their doubts, ain't it like most people we love to talk on things we don't know about". Nuff said.

Wasn't really feeling the new album until I heard this song. Sounds a lot like Thao and the Get Down Stay Down which is a good thing!

I like the duality between the live vs studio versions. It's seems to be an intentional divide between live and digital distribution.

So as several have commented here, the three songs they have released from the new album have been very inferior (musically, production, lyrically) to pretty much anything on the last two albums. "The Carpenter" and "Magpie and the Dandelion" were amazing. I just hope "True Sadness" is better overall than the three singles that have been released. "Ain't no man" is just horrible. No one in their right mind would think that "Ain't no man" is as high quality as "Morning song" or "February Seven" or "Through my prayers".
