Good to know. I sure wish they played them in January. Good show either way.

Saw them twice in May, and the gospel tunes are back in heavy rotation. Sounded awesome.

These old songs are annointed by the Spirit of Christ. It's normal to feel that emotion. Growing up, I saw grown men weaping in church like babies when these songs were played. They speak to the soul.

Saw them live in Jan 2013. Loved every second of the show. I was sad they didn't do any gospel tunes, though. I'm hoping they bring these songs back to their live shows.

This makes me tear up every time I watch it. It touches me to the core, to my heart and to my soul. I cant explain it, other than to say it is so beautiful that it makes me overload emotionally and the only way I can profess my joy is with tears. Simply amazing. Thank you to the Avetts for doing this and thanks to the poster for sharing.

yup. I like it. It's nice to know there's real musicians out there still.

like mumford and sons--bands are popping up like this everyday--you actually don't know who is copying who

lady gaga & Justin bieber are riding a wave. These guys have talent that'll keep 'em writing/playing great music as long as they want to.

This is perfect.

Well it's a wave they've been riding for a decade or more...since the late 90's...sounds more like catching sets, chillin, then catchin sets. You must not know much about them.

I am non religious and without a doubt, my favorite songs of the Avett Brothers are their gospels.

they are just riding the wave--it will soon pass

@ptvjules what does "and so the drama of this song changes quite a bit...with stitches and all?" mean?

Love that this was recorded, very special. I was lucky enough to be at this show and they were amazing. Glad that all can experience it here now. They had just before stopped the show to stop a fight in the middle of I and Love and You.

@ThePippatoo Sorry, but that's a cynical comment. They had older, mountain music around them growing up through their dad Jim.

@countrymusicpride I think their grandfather was a minister so they probably did grow up listening to a decent amount of gospel. But I'm sure other stuff had its place as well.

or it gives us the fact that they indeed bought the soundtrack to o brother where art thou (i think they grew up on temple of the dog and tool)

This is beautiful. I love it when they sing old gospel tunes. It gives us fans a little insight on how they were raised.
