I don't get what everyone's complaining about. I discovered the Avett Brothers from this song, and went back and listened to their complete discography. They're one of my new favourite bands, and it was because of this "mainstream" song.I never understood why some people want their favourite bands to remain underground and making the same music over and over. Wouldn't you want the bands you like to gain new audiences, make more money from touring etc., and ultimately keep pumping out amazing music??

everybody saying that the brothers are going mainstream because of this song? really? does any mainstream listener actually listen to the lyrics of songs, i don't think so. all mainstream songs have are some sort of catchy beat and overplayed melody. which is why the brothers will always be the best band to me. the lyrics and the stories that they accentuate with beautiful music are what draw the fans in. even in this song, the lyrics are what will make you stay here and listen time and time again. not because of the upbeat, not because of the fancy video, but the story behind the words that you'll sing along with. then if you take a look at the other single from this cd Morning Song, you'll go right back to the "roots" i guess they are. the avett style has changed a bit over the years in the fact that they've gotten more members in the band, have grown older in life, and generally gone on without huge media success, but they still love music, they still make chilling, haunting, and beautiful songs. actually, listening to one of their newer songs called Fisher Road... that song is incredibly haunting and definitely not mainstream.

yup, i like this song, and even it does sound different, imagine writing songs for more than a decade and staying true to yourself. Even that lets break it down even more, have you ever, walked the same, talked the same, had the same friends, found any new interests, hobbies, life changing philosophies, God, or anything in the whole human experience as to which has changed you at all? These musicians are human, and if you ask me, its a great song.

I don't care what anyone says this song rocks especially live. This is coming from a long time Avett Brothers fan too. If you want them to stick to their roots, go listen to their old albums. Let the band evolve into what they want to be.

You people saying they need to stay true to their roots don't even know what their "roots" are obviously. They started out as punk rockers before they ever picked up a banjo and went acoustic. They aren't limited or defined by a genre. They are very talented musicians they can play any kind of genre they feel like. Start listening to the lyrics of the songs and the messages and quit worrying about how a song is presented. Every album they have ever made has had more upbeat punk songs, while also have bluegrassy, country and quiet acoustic songs. Don't see why this is such a shocker. If Talk On Indolence or Slight Figure of Speech came out on a new album people would be saying they are going too mainstream.

Goddammit people stop freaking out because this sounds "too mainstream" and how they need to stay true to their roots. They make one upbeat pop sounding song that lasts two minutes and you hipsters feel you can't identify with them anymore. It's not like they became that much more famous after this song. some people always need to find something to critique but it gets fucking annoying. It doesn't accomplish anything other that making sure others know you're a bigot
