The Ash Grove - Welsh Tune, from "Folksong Arrangements: Volume 1 - British Isles for high voice and piano, by Benjamin Britten, Boosey & Hawkes, is sung here by Rosa Wol, soprano, piano accomp. by Sonja Mazar. Final recital-exam at The Academy of Music in Jerusalem, 9/12/2008

Please notice the special arrangement Britten gave to this song, in the piano part: it seems as if the piano-part has life of its own, without connection to the original folksong. The disconnection grows stronger and stronger each stanza, until the piano and the voice clash harmonicaly between themselves

I'm planning on singing the same arrangement for a recital in a couple months. Sounds great. Thanks for the post. :)

@hcluvsyou321 Frankly, I don't remember, however - it was only a part of a whole recital-exam I had to pass in the Music Academy.

Thanks for the comment. I admitt that I'm confused with these opposite advices. Maybe time and my own instincts will tell me what to do while singing. Maybe body movement is another way for one to express itself and both ways are legitimate. Thanks again, Rosa

The body movement is not distracting to me ... quite the opposite ... the singer is using her whole being to give energy to the song. I LOVE IT !

Lovely voice ***** But keep still - let the drama come from your face, and the words, which you express well. The original song is called 'Llwyn Onn' and is a bitter, tragic tale of a cruel father - unlike Britten's gentle English version. This 1943 arrangement is of course a classic.

This is a British art-song, based on a folk-song. I don't know which level it is considered according to the USA learning-demands in classical-singing.
