The Appleseed Cast is often labelled as post-rock primarily because of Low Level Owl (and to a lesser extent, Sagarmatha). There are also bands such as Moving Mountains which could easily be categorized as either.

@fuckinxslayer: yes godspeed was one of the first post rock bands, but appleseed cast had put out several albums before the wave of post rock bands adopted an almost identical sound which became the popular trend of the post rock movement. Appleseed cast deserves some more credit for bringing that sound out of the dark and manifesting it into something that has been used to shape the scene of music today. I also credit the Chicago scene for playing a big part in this evolution.
