A mad pistached of bump-and-grinm transcendental arpeggggios, proto-metal swagger and laser-beam leads reaching a crescendo of post punk deconstruction. The uncredited instrumentals suggest slapdash genius. That's exactly what it is. In addition to leading surf gods the Spacemen, guitar genius Jerry Cole worked with everyone from the Beach Boys, the Byrds, and Them to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. But unbeknownst to many, Cole was also the driving force behind the Animated Egg, this fictitious band whose lone, self-titled 1967 LP is one of the greatest psychedelic exploitation records ever to hit the budget bins of U.S. chain stores—and eventually the want lists of big-spending DJs and collectors.
