The funeral home across the street from my house is where he and I would sit on the lawn and talk into the night. His number came up and he was off to Vietnam. Down to his last month or so small arms fire got him. Back to the funeral home he went. this time in one of them flag draped coffins.

I was in Bien Hoa in 1968. We served with honor in South Vietnam. We did the duty our country told us to do. Unfortunately they turned their backs on us when we returned, and we faded away. The majority of us lead very successful lives with family and friends. I participated in my first Veteran's Day parade in 2007. even though it was many years after my service in Vietnam, it felt good to honored by my country.

I remember sitting on the curb on Washtenaw Ave in Ypsilanti, MI in 1968. We were there to protest the VN war. Some were there to rail against Johnson, et al and our govt. I was there more for our boys who were coming home so hurt. I wanted to bring the boys home NOW and I told anyone who would listen. This song was playing that night on my transistor radio. I always associate that war, that time, the boys with this song. Guess I always will. Welcome home to the guys who made it. My prayers are with you now as they were then.
