I thought it was ' oh highly FLAVOURED lady as a child. This morning at Mass, I' m afraid it slipped out unintentionally again.

lol...I'm trying to learn the tenor part for this for choir and I have to admit your words threw me off a bit :) I had to stop and look at my score.

Interesting, the soprano line adds a passing tone toward the end before the "Gloria", the next to the last measure.

My Dad completely spoiled a piece by Mozart for my mother by putting his own words to it: "And that's how our baby put his rubbers in the gravy." Sorry, not to know what piece it was that he splattered with sauce-iness.

Thank you! You took me back 40-odd years with that one too. I think every choirboy thought they were the first to come up with that line!

Every year someone sings "Most highly flavoured gravy" ! Look forward to singing this next month! :D

I completely understand. After years of singing Britten's Ceremony of Carols, I am still tempted to change part of This Little Babe from " . . . of shepherds he his muster makes" to "a yellow mess his mustard makes".

Chorister humour, apologies, I suddenly regressed to being 10 years old and couldn't resist!

I am being VERY picky now! The score does not match the singing: I don't the treble line is correct for the 'Gloria'. There should be an extra 'B' after the 'A' at the start. The version being sung is the one on Wikipedia (which Youtube won't let me post a link to!) Search on 'The Angel Gabriel'. It is WITHOUT gravy btw lol!

My friends and I composed a parody of this carol which included the line "Most highly flavoured gravy" - obviously we weren't the first to think of this!! Text of our (rather silly) parody available on request!
